Genre
Genre is a category of artistic, musical, or literary composition characterized by a particular style, form, or content. Genres are created by a range of codes and conventions that change over time. It is the term for any category that is based on some set of stylistic criteria. Genre describes how the media text is put together. There are many different types of Genres in the usic press, each with different, but sometimes similar, codes and conventions that make that Genre recognisable. For example, Genres in the Music Press include: Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Classical, Country, Dance, House, Rap, Jazz, Soul and many more.

Institution - the business side of the media
Independent - not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct etc
Mainstream - what is considered normal
Multi platform - where a brand exploits the different delivery systems for the media including print, broadcasting and e media
Cross promotion - a form of marketing promotion where customers of one product or service are targeted with promotion of a related product
Niche market - a smaller group within a broad media audience eg.music fans
Diversity - variety, multiformity
